                                                                     Term 2 Week 5

Dear Parents/Caregivers

From the Principal

Last week I attended a training session about anaphylactic reactions and what we as a school can do to prevent serious consequences to such events. If your child has a serious allergic reaction to anything, you must notify the school so that we can put procedures in place for the safety of your child. Make sure that the school record of addresses and phone numbers, especially emergency contacts is always up to date.

Congratulations to the eighteen students from years 4 and 5 who participated with Miss Haylock in the Priority Schools’ Student Forum on Thursday. Not only did these students have a very worthwhile day but they excelled in their behaviour and their contribution to the forum. We received a letter from a teacher from Walgett who commended them for ‘displaying the behavior and attitude that can only result from their own understanding and usage of’ the core ‘values’ that are taught in our schools. The group now has to lead a project within our school dealing with values. They will report back to the forum later next term. Miss Haylock will be working with them on this project.

Dr Michael Carr-Gregg addressed a large number of teachers and parents last Wednesday on child development and student learning. One of the things he stressed was spending time and communicating with our children. In our busy lives we all need to prioritise our time and spending time with family has to be high on our list. Children grow up very quickly. Let’s not miss our opportunities.

Till next week

Art Gallery Trip

On Thursday 25th May classes 2/4L, 5L & 5H went to the art gallery.  The art gallery is in the town library.  We met a man named Kent.   He read us a story called

‘Come by Chance’.  It was a great story!  After that Kent taught  us a lot about books and art galleries.   Then Kent said we could have a look at the art.  Time for recess.  After that we played on the equipment.  I was excited and so was 2/4L, 5L & 5H.  We had a great day.

Calling Pre-loved Books

Our school has the opportunity to have a Creative Arts specialist to work with our students for two whole days!  Nika Norman will be coming to our school early in Term 3.

In order to raise funds to allow this, we are holding a SECOND HAND BOOK SALE in our library on Thursday 22nd June 2006.

Could you please search through your books and send in any books that could be given another chance to be read.   Suitable books would be children’s books and appropriate books for grownups.

Thanks so much

Mrs Jeanie Martin

            Integrity                        Responsibility

Our students engaged well in all activities, contributed well in discussions and willingly shared across the whole group.  The students also gained skills in meeting students from other schools and are to be congratulated upon their fine contribution and participation.   They now have a project that they have to do in our school and we look forward to seeing the implementation of this project and its results
